Product Description

A company representative from Decca, whilst not over impressed with Daffan and his group, did feel that there was some potential in a few of the songs that Daffan had written, one of those songs was "Truck Driver Blues". Decca had Cliff Bruner record the number and it soon became a hit, latching onto the success of the song, both Columbia and RCA-Victor released cover versions. Art Satherly, who recalled Daffan from a previous encounter flew down to Houston and signed Daffan to a recordings contract with Columbia subsidiary OKEH. The first song Daffan recorded was "Worried Mind", another self penned composition, which zoomed up the charts when released, only denied the coveted number one position by Bob Wills' "San Antonio Rose". Daffan continued to churn out hit songs throughout the forties, virtually every session he recorded was comprised of self penned material. Art Satherly, was a little uneasy at this, it wasn't company policy to take so many songs from one writer, so he suggested that Daffan adopt a nom de plume for the purposes of disguising his identity, thus Frankie Brown was 'born' (Frankie, a name plucked out of thin air, and Brown as it was his mother's maiden name). This 'new songwriter, the hitherto unknown Mr Brown, showed a good deal of promise, one of his early compositions was "Born To Lose", which did rather well! When Daffan received a Gold Disc for selling over a million copies "Born To Lose", Art Satherly decided it didn't matter anymore how many songs Daffan wrote or recorded, and Frankie Brown was destined to be a little more than a footnote in the history of Country music. This compact disc has been compiled expertly and is another classic from the Jasmine Country series.
